The Punch FC is Born
The Punch FC was founded in 2005 by the current chairman Matthew Widdowson.
Matthew Widdowson was supported by Jen Lister the clubs founding secretary and Mark Childs the clubs first ever Treasurer.
The clubs home ground was Lings Forum, an eigth generation fake grass pitch.
By the end of the first season Mark Childs had been fired as Treasurer after picking up the Peter Risdale Award for Financial Excellence and The Punch FC looked doomed to financial ruin. The club was forced to leave their home ground and ground share with other Sunday League teams. However The Punch FC was saved by new investers and a new management team. Jen Lister was replaced by Bob Taylor as Administration Director and Jim Bailey took over as Director of Finance. Led by Matthew Widdowson as Chairman the trio cleared the club's debts and took the club forward.
On the pitch the clubs first season saw the team grow and mature, players joined and some were lost to bigger clubs and serious injury. By the end of the first season The Punch FC had secured a mid-table finish but had yet to win a cup game or draw a league match. Both these mile stones were achieved at the start of the second season.
